Prominence of the Shrine : Avudayar here is made up of sand which is in ‘Suyambu’ form(self-made form). Avudayar is nothing but the base of the Shiva Linga. The Avudayar is only half feet height here. This temple is very old and small. This temple is facing the east direction. Main Deity and Ambal Sannidhi both are facing the east direction is the specialty in this temple. There are separate Sannidhis for Lord Ganesha and Lord Murugan at the front side of the temple. Anumathlingam is near to these Sannidhis.
Temple History : Once upon a time, a businessman called ‘Dhanajcheyan’ suffered from a leaprece disease. He visited this temple and worshipped Karukudinathar (Lord Shiva) and he got relieved from his deadly disease. From that day onwards it is believed that anybody having a severe diseases will get relieved if they worship here.
