Prominence of the Shrine : In the Tamil month of Chithirai, on the 11th, 12th and 13th day the rays of the sun will enter into the temple’s ‘karpagraha’. The Natarajar Mandapam here is in the shape of a temple chariot. In the wheels of the chariot, the twelve signs of the Zodiac are found. The chariot is portrayed as being pulled by two horses and elephants. Nageswarar too makes his presence at the Mahamaham festival.
Temple History : Nageswaraswamy temple is one of the oldest temple in the temple town Kumbakonam. This is also referred as “kudanthai Keezh Kottam’ in Tamil. This temple has been constructed approximately 1500 years back.
