Specialty of the shrine : The shrine in which the Lord absorbed the souls and became one with them during the MahaSangaram is called ‘Kaaronam’. The Goddess here performed ‘Aaroganam’ on the body of the Lord. The sling which held the Holy pot containing nectar became Sivalingam. Hence this place is also called as ‘Sikkesam’. ‘Sikkam’ means the sling (uri in Tamil). Someswarar also makes his presence at the Mahamaham celebrations.
Temple History : This temple is constructed during 13th century. By looking at the construction of this temple, it is based on chozha’s architecture. Lord murugan in this temple has separate sannidhi and he is more famous here. It is believed that Lord murugan is wearing a footwear in this temple.
